Makaton Training

Monday 5th August - 10am to 1pm

Makaton is a language aid widely used in specialist schools and inclusive settings as an aid to learning and teaching. It uses similar communication to sign language but in a different way. Emma, is a dance artist and Makaton tutor, who will teach you around 50 dance specific concepts along with the alphabet, so you can say your name. This session will allow you to learn the basics and benefits of Makaton for practical dance based activities.

Business Surgery - Tax & Finance with Sam Price

Tuesday 20th August - 10am to 12pm

Sam Price, from ICS, will get you up to speed and on financial track with this 2-hour workshop. Sam is an ACA, ATT and AAT-qualified accountant with broad experience in accounting, tax and finance. His expertise lies in helping small businesses and the self-employed and will help you to prosper by explaining your financial obligations in a friendly, jargon-free approach.

Professionals' Workshop - Site Specific Dance with Charlie Morrissey

Wednesday 21st August - 10am to 5pm

Charlie will join us to deliver a day long practical workshop which explores his experience of site-specific dance practice.  He creates pieces ranging from elaborate installations with complex sets, costumes, lighting, pyrotechnics and large casts, through to very intimate solo, duet and small group performances in informal settings with little or no technical or production requirements.

This workshop will help you to diversify your practice as a dance artist, explore your relationships with the outdoors and craft in response to the context of the landscape.

Professionals' Workshop - Choreographing Light with Mary Branson

Friday 6th September - 10am to 1pm

Hosted by The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal , this session will enable dance artists to diversify and widen their practice by giving them the opportunity to think about how they might innovatively choreograph light.

Mary Branson is a visual artist who specialises in working with various light forms and has been fascinated with light and the potential of choreographing it. Mary will share her practice and experience through case studies & practical tasks.

Professionals' Workshop - Choreographing Light with Julie Brown

Friday 6th September - 2pm to 4pm

Hosted by The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal , this session will enable dance artists to diversify and widen their practice by giving them the opportunity to think about how they might innovatively choreograph light.

Julie Brown, of imitating the dog, will lead this two-hour masterclass to debunk the myths around the commissioning process of light festivals and more generally, outdoor festivals. Through this session dance artists and makers will learn how to pitch their ideas to festival commissioners, so that they are more likely to succeed in securing future work and diversifying their work strands.
