Miss Baines Creates: Developing Artists
Sophie
Hi, my name’s Sophie and I am currently going into my third year of study for my BA(Hons) in dance at Edge Hill University.
I have had many years of experience within the dance world in a variety of places and styles, such as performing at major UK theme parks and working/teaching with charities to bring dance and the performing arts to more people in the UK.
Deciding to become a part of Ludus has been my next step towards widening my dance practices and discovering new ways that the art form can be used creatively.
Through my studies at University, as well as being a member of LYDC, I have grown to have a passion for creative and contemporary dance, and how this can be used to create connections to others and yourself. Working on Miss Baines creates with LYDC opened up the possibilities of what I thought this could mean, so to have the opportunity to become a larger part of this and see how the project has worked in the community has been unforgettable.
Robbie
Hi! I’m Robbie, I’m currently studying Dance at Edge Hill University. I’m also apart of Ludus Youth Dance Company alongside my studying. Having finished my second year at Edge Hill I thought this was the perfect time to get a little work experience in the industry I’m hoping to work in after I graduate. As I’m proceeding into the final year of my degree I am really focussed on giving myself the best kick start into my career, and as I love being a part of LYDC I was really interested in completing work experience with the Ludus team.
I have been really lucky to be given the opportunity to volunteer with the Miss Baines holiday club project in a primary school. This project focusses on children who live in and around a the Ryelands Estate in Lancaster, teaching them about the history of where they live.
In University I have studied a lot of the theory side of teaching within education and community, unfortunately due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to put all the theory we’ve learnt into practice as we would normally go out into education and community settings and gained real life experience.
This project attracted me because not only do I get gain really valuable experience but I get to put all my theoretical findings for both education and community into practice and merge them together. We are based in a school (which is the education setting) but as it is the summer holidays there is also an aspect of working with the community as well! Killing two birds with one stone, and I feel really lucky to be able to say that! So far I am really enjoying myself and I don’t want this experience to end!
